GETTING THE JOB

Types of Jobs
– Shift Managers perform a variety of tasks including planning for each shift, monitoring performances during the shift, taking action to ensure that the team is meeting McDonald’s standards, keeping track of safety, security and profitability.
-Maintenance Person employees assist management in achieving and maintaining outstanding interior and exterior restaurant cleanliness and maintaining restaurant equipment.
-Crew members enjoy flexible hours and perform a variety of tasks including greeting customers, taking food orders, preparing all of McDonald’s food, helping with restaurant cleanliness, and making sure items are well stocked.
-General Managers are responsible for running a profitable restaurant and for making sure the restaurant meets McDonald’s high standards of Quality, Service and Cleanliness. He or she leads a team of Department Managers that has specific responsibilities in the restaurant.
-Guest Service Department Managers are responsible for making sure Crew and Managers deliver a great customer experience, that sales promotions are done well, that all service staff are trained in service procedures, and that the Front Counter McCafé and Drive-Thru areas are organized.
-Kitchen Department Managers are in charge of making sure the restaurant delivers great quality food to customers, and fast, that food is always safe, that food cost is controlled, and that all kitchen staff are trained in production procedures.
-Department Managers make sure the restaurant hires qualified crew, trains them well, and schedules them to meet restaurant sales and profit goals.

Salary
McDonald’s does not list its hourly wages on its website, but third party sites report that Crew members earn $8.39 per hour while Restaurant General Managers can earn up to $48,374 annually.

Minimum Age
Crew members can be as young as 14 years old. Night closers must be 18 years of age or older. The minimum age for cashiers is 16 years old. Shift managers must also be 18 years of age or older. Check with your local McDonald’s for specific age requirements.

 Tips For The Interview
The following advice comes from McDonald’s itself, so follow it carefully in order to help ensure your chances of getting hired:

Dress appropriately. Leave your favorite band t-shirt at home; instead wear a shirt with a collar or a nice blouse. Also, wear dress shoes over sneakers. No flip-flops. Wear dress slacks, not jeans.
Clean appearance.

These may sound like basics, but come well-groomed with a washed face and brushed teeth. Self-expression is great, but it’s important to get the job before you start pushing the envelope.
Punctuality matters.

-Plan at to arrive early in case there’s unexpected traffic or the bus or train is running late.

-Switch your phone to mute. Show the interviewer that he or she has your full attention by putting your cell phone on mute during the interview.

(However, you have a right to learn what these are later.) Ask questions about the company and the McDonald’s in particular at which you’re looking to work. Ask what skills and attributes McDonald’s is looking for in a candidate?
Pen and paper.

-Bring a small notebook and a pen. Take notes during the interview to show that you’re interested in what’s being said.

-Bring a few extra copies of your resume. It’ll show the interviewer that you come to work prepared.
Have answers ready. Be prepared to answer inquiries such as “Tell me a little bit about yourself” or “Why should we hire you above the other candidates?”
